Bro. Magno & Sis. Amy Santos - Missionaries to Brazil
Sister Amy is working for God in Northeast Brazil. Her home church in the states is the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Goshen, Indiana, however I believe she would tell you that her home now is in Brazil. The following is a short history of her ministry in her own words:
Trip to Maribondo
The first time that I felt the presence of the Lord was when I was about 5 years old sitting in a great big Baptist church where I was raised until I was about 10 years old. I felt the Lord speak to me and I went to the front of the church to the altar and there I told the pastor that I felt like the Lord wanted me to be a missionary. I came to know the Truth of the Word of God when I was 15 years old. I was baptized in Jesus name and filled with the Holy Ghost two days later in the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Goshen, IN. About a year later, I was in my room praying and the Lord spoke to me, calling me to serve Him in another land and while I was on my knees praying, I saw myself, sitting with little children of different races singing about the love of Jesus. I began teaching Sunday School in my home church at the age of 18. A couple of years later, we started a bus ministry and Childrens church which I worked with actively and shortly after became responsible for the children ages 2-5. In the year 1999, my pastor asked me to start a Vacation Bible School which I directed for three years and still continues today. We started with about 50 kids and the last year that I directed it, we had nearly 140 kids in attendance. God blessed and was teaching me many of the things that I would later need in Missions at this time. I learned to love God, love His Word, and His people. I learned the fundamental truths of His Word and also studied some college which has proven a great help to the work here in Brazil.
Trip to Maribondo
The first time that I came to Brazil was in the year 2000 with a group of 7 people from our home church. It was my first mission experience. We visited an area called Campinas in the state of São Paulo. This is where Brother Raul Jr. Alvear is pastoring and leading a work. At that time, he was in the process of building a headquarters church, which we helped with each day. We also spent much time going door to door inviting people to church, making visits, and helping in church services. In fact, in the 4 and half weeks we were there, there was only 3 nights that we were not in service. I returned to Brazil by myself in December of 2001, after the Lord calling and making clear His will by providing the means to come and work for six months. This time I came to work
Gabriel's Birthday Party
in the Northeast part of Brazil where Brother and Sister Alvear, Sr. are working. This is the poorest part of Brazil. In this six months, I worked with the children in Sunday school, learned the language of Portuguese, and generally helped with the mission work here. Because of Visa reasons, I had to return to the States for six months where I worked raising money to return. In January of 2003, I returned for 5 months and began working on my permanent Visa as I felt led that God wanted me to work on a full-time basis here. In September of 2003, the Lord performed a miracle in giving me my permanent Visa as it is very difficult. Now I am busily involved in the work here in Northeast Brazil where God has truly blessed.
May God bless! Sister Amy
